Artistic approach

First of all I start with a paper, it has to appeal to me, by its texture, its weight, its nature, its quality. I often work on Japanese paper. I make it my own, I fold it, I crease it, I create a background, I coat it, I brush it, I colour it, I transfer a weft from the city like a manhole cover, or from nature like bark. This is the starting point, partly dreamt, partly taken from reality. It's physical, impulsive work, involving strength and power, but sometimes it's restrained, delicate, intimate, inspired by everyday life. By dint of repetition, these gestures reproduced a thousand times acquire a symbolic and existential power.
