Artistic approach

Born in 1967 in Brussels, Amélie de Beauffort is a visual artist and has been a professor and head of the Drawing Programme at ArBA-EsA in Brussels since 2015. She is also the co-founder of the Fédération des Arts Plastiques.

Her work focuses primarily on drawing. She develops a methodology in which drawing is considered as a space of exchange (in the sense of an exchange with someone, rather than of something). The sheet of paper appears both as the screen on which the image is inscribed and as a real, sensitive, and active surface that responds to plastic events. She draws on, but above all with the paper and its potential as a dynamic principle. Despite its deceptive fragility, this matrix-like support allows itself to be altered, yet becomes animated and reacts to her sometimes iconoclastic gestures. Obscure or lunar, recto or verso, it plays with its two sides, where fragments and traces sediment—belonging as much to tactile memory as to visual experience.
